Almost all music diretors have unique voices which dont conform to the normal –
If you listen to the first few songs sung by Ilayaraja and the later numbers like “Nan thedum” you will see how much he has calibrated his voice and style of singing — This applies to almost every singer- Listen to SPB in “Ayiram nilavev vaa ” (there is a touch of Mohd Rafi in this song) and then ‘Kadhalin deepam” or Jesudass in ” Nenjathat alli konjam tha tha tha ” (Kadhalikka neramilai ) and “mazhai varudhu ” or even TMS in Sabash meena and later in almost every song he sang for MGR and Sivaji Ganesan– -You will see a vast difference in style , rendering and depth in voice—You can close your eyes and say whether the song was from an MGR or Sivaji movie — Perhaps one singer who did not coform to this is P Suseela who has been outatnding all thro her career –Listen to her in “Kana inbam ” with T A Modhi in Sabash meena and later in “Unnai nan sandhithen” you will not see much difference in rendering the songs –

இதில் விதிவிலக்குகளில் ஏ.எம்.ராஜா, P.B.ஸ்ரீநிவாஸ்,
சி.எஸ்.ஜெயராமன், கண்டசாலா போன்றோரையும்
சேர்த்துக் கொள்ளலாம். யாருக்காக பாடினாலும்,
அவர்கள் குரல் மாறாது….!!!

Mr K M you are right,I missed out The singers you have mentioned sang uniformly throughout –We had lot of great singers in Tamil whose voices were different from one another — Female singers with north pole south pole voices gave some unique songs like “Thoothu solla oru” Ammamma keladi thozhi” ” Nilavukku thendral pagayanal” -In Karnan there was a unique combination of Sirghazi, PBS and TMS -To this day I marvel at how these three voices could be fit into one song -You can go on and on endlessly on this subject —

Sweetest voice was that of A.M. Raja’s. Then Nilavu songs stand ample testimony for this. Particularly for Gemini Ganesan, A.M. Raja’s voice suited very well.
